Licensed home daycares in Ontario operate under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, which sets clear rules for children’s safety, well-being, and early development. Every licensed home daycare is part of a licensed agency that supports and monitors providers to make sure all provincial standards are met. Homes are inspected regularly to confirm that the environment is safe, clean, and suitable for children. Providers must complete training, hold valid first aid and CPR certificates, and pass background checks before caring for children.

A licensed provider may care for up to six children under the age of thirteen, which helps maintain small, family-like groups where each child receives attention and care. The program includes a balance of play, learning, and rest, all designed to support social, emotional, and cognitive growth in a warm home setting.
